Restorative

Dental implants.

Implant restoration is an innovative way to replace missing teeth with permanent crowns that look and function exactly like your own natural teeth. The crowns — which we make in our Walnut Creek office with the CEREC system — are attached to titanium posts that are surgically implanted for the very best functionality.

Why missing teeth matter

While missing teeth are often thought of as a cosmetic issue only, the truth is that missing teeth can affect the entire body. Depending on how many teeth you are missing, you may suffer from malnutrition since missing teeth often cause discomfort when eating fresh, nutritious foods.

Missing teeth also cause wear and tear on your remaining teeth, which could lead to tooth pain, erosion, and decay — and eventually, more tooth loss. If your self-esteem is suffering because of missing teeth, you may even develop depression. It’s important to take care of missing teeth promptly.

How implant restoration works

  1. 01

    Examination & planning

Dr. Maher will examine your teeth and gums and take x-rays to determine the condition of the bone in your jaws. Because dental implants require the post to be implanted directly into your jaw, it’s important for the bone to be healthy and present in significant quantity.

  2. 02

    Bone & tissue assessment

Over time, missing teeth can cause the surrounding tissue — including jaw bone — to atrophy. If your jaw bone has started to atrophy, we can consider bone and tissue grafts. Dr. Maher will discuss those options with you.

  3. 03

    Surgical placement

Once you and Dr. Maher have determined that dental implants are right for you, you’ll be referred to a skilled oral surgeon to have the titanium post implanted. Titanium is a bio-compatible metal, which allows it to eventually become a part of your jaw without the risk of sensitivity or rejection.

  4. 04

    CEREC crown restoration

Dr. Maher uses the CEREC system to create a beautiful, natural-looking crown perfectly customized to match your own teeth, and ready the same day. Working with you using pictures and photographs, he designs a crown that blends in flawlessly. Once ready, it’s attached to your post and your restoration is complete.

3D scanning & printing

Dr. Maher uses 3D scanning and printing extensively for design and fabrication of appliances — including implant surgical guides — for precise, predictable placement.

A natural, lasting result

Implant restoration replaces missing teeth with permanent crowns that look and function exactly like your own natural teeth, restored to their full functionality — without compromising your remaining teeth the way a bridge might.
